Hello, fellow sightseers and road trippers!
If you’re looking for a destination that nourishes both the soul and the senses, then Monte Maria in Batangas is the perfect escape. Nestled in the peaceful mountains of Batangas City, this pilgrimage site is fast becoming one of the Philippines’ most inspiring landmarks. Whether you’re a devout pilgrim, an architecture lover, or an adventure-seeking traveler, Monte Maria offers something truly unique.
Monte Maria (officially Monte Maria International Pilgrimage and Conference Center) is a spiritual and cultural landmark located in Batangas City, Philippines. Best known for the towering Mother of All Asia – Tower of Peace, it’s a must-visit for pilgrims, tourists, and nature lovers alike.
🚗 A Scenic Journey from Metro Manila
Our journey began in Metro Manila, bright and early, as we took the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), then transitioned to the CALABARZON Expressway, and finally the STAR Tollway. Thanks to our trusty GPS, the drive was smooth and hassle-free.
As we left the city skyline behind, the roads began to wind and climb, revealing postcard-perfect views of rolling hills, mountain peaks, and glimpses of Batangas Bay. It was the kind of road trip that makes you roll down the windows, blast your favorite playlist, and just enjoy the ride.
🙏 The Story Behind Monte Maria
Monte Maria is more than just another religious destination—it’s a vision of faith, peace, and unity brought to life. The idea was first conceived in 2006 by Father Fernando Suarez, a Roman Catholic priest renowned for his healing ministry. He dreamed of creating a massive pilgrimage site in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
With the support of Hermilando “Dodo” Mandanas, a local politician and now governor of Batangas, that dream took shape. A 5-hectare plot of land in Brgy. Pagkilatan was donated by Mandanas' firm, and the vision was set in motion.
Though Father Suarez eventually shifted his focus to another endeavor, Mandanas saw the project through. Fast forward to 2021, and the towering Mother of All Asia – Tower of Peace was completed—an astonishing 98-meter-tall statue now recognized as the world’s tallest statue of the Virgin Mary.
🏛️ What to See and Do at Monte Maria
While the statue alone is a breathtaking sight, Monte Maria is an experience that goes beyond admiration. Visitors are invited to explore its many spiritual and cultural spaces:
🌟 Inside the Tower of Peace:
Ground Floor: Home to the St. John Paul II Shrine, a relaxing seating area, a snack concession stand, and the ticket booth for the view deck.
3rd Floor: Features 21 Marian chapels, each honoring a different global devotion to the Virgin Mary.
4th Floor: A food hall that serves both local favorites and quick bites for hungry visitors.
5th Floor: Mini theaters playing inspirational and religious films.

15th Floor: A stunning viewing deck that offers panoramic views of Batangas Bay and the surrounding mountains.
Even higher levels include commercial and residential spaces, envisioned as part of Monte Maria’s goal to create a self-sustaining spiritual community.
🔨 A Destination Still Taking Shape
While Monte Maria already welcomes thousands of visitors, it's still evolving. Several exciting developments are in progress, including:
A capsule hotel for budget-friendly accommodations

Additional attractions like a water park, fitness center, swimming pool, and expanded parking lots
These projects reflect the site’s ambition to become a world-class pilgrimage and cultural destination.
